Why are our drug laws so out of date??

This picture clearly, alone shows how stupid these laws are. Marijuana is legal soley based off politics and power, rather than the truth.

Axe Commercial: CLean Your Balls

February 12, 2010

The beginning of this year, Axe deodorant released a new commercial advertising their new product called the Axe Detailer. The Axe Detailer is a small, soft scrubber which is used to clean your body, while using an axe shower gel product. .” I found this commercial to be extremely effective for many reasons, but first, let me break it down for you, scene by scene. setting is similar to a talk show with an audience and bright stage with a beautiful host behind a counter. In the background, though subtle, is a giant sign ran by lightbulbs which spell out “AXE.” It starts with a classic, deep voiced announcer, announcing an intro for the host saying “Mankind has asked many questions, but few are profound as this!”
The scene is then focused on two very beautiful women; one is a brunette host and the other is a blonde demonstrating this new product. By using both a blond and brunette, they can easily reach a larger demographic of men. The brunette instantly asks how men can clean their balls and then the blonde, being very confident (and sexy) says the axe detailer can get the job done and make “any balls sparkly and new!” She then cleans the balls. She cups two golf balls and scrubs them in a very sensual way (in a way that’s an exact pun and reference to sexual acts). They even added another, very subtle pun by using a fake disclaimer on the bottom in extremely small text saying “Take care when using on sensitive areas.” Any male (or female) who catches that will instantly like the commercial that much more for being even more creative and innovative.
Then she asks the brunette to go ahead and play with the balls and when she does, you can tell she’s clearly enjoying herself and says “magical” in a sexual voice. All in all, I found this commercial to be very entertaining and effective. It successfully grabs the targeted demographic and audience’s attention. I may not buy this product, but I fully support the company and ideals.

Remember When You Had To Blow Into The Games To Get Them To Work?

February 5, 2010

Even though i wasn’t born when the original Video games with cartridges were first made, i’ve always had a respect for the firsts. In 1978 the first Cartridge console was available; That system was called the Odyssey 2. The first company to mass produce and monopolize the video game market was the Japanese company, Nintendo. Nintendo released it’s first Video Game console to the U.S. in 1985 and was called the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short. The console was pre-packaged with, now probably the most popular video game icon, Mario Bros. Mario Bros. sparked a revolution.
FOllowing the NES was the Super Nintendo, or the SNES. Then came hand held Nintendo systems such as the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. The last system Nintendo released that used cartridges was the Nintendo 64, or N64. It was revolutionary and provided at that time, the greatest gaming graphics and 360 degree graphics.
Through more innovation and revolutionary thinking, the cartridge gaming system was replaced with the CD Disk. The Sony Playstation and Nintendo Game Cube were the first to capitalize on this (not considering computer games) and were strong competitive rivals to each other, both standing on their own unique ground and marketing to their own demographics.
In the last 30 years, the virtual gaming experienced has changed so much to where we are now the controller using visual, body cues. I can’t even imagine the future for video games in the next 5 years and how much it will change. We will see.

Why Radio If We Have Pandora?

February 5, 2010

Pandora radio is probably one of the most innovative personal radio stations today. Why you ask? Well because it’s only what YOU want to listen to. www.pandora.com is a giant network of a very large collection and database of music. You type in the band you want to listen to and then it cycles through and plays only bands that play similar music. And it’s surprisingly (almost in a scary way) very effective!
If you’re into ska and you type “Reel Big Fish” as the band to play, it will also play other bands like LEss Than Jake, Goldfinger and Suburban Legends. All very similar style bands. I personally have no idea how it works but i like to think it’s magic performed by a higher being ;) .
How do they make money? Well after about every 8 songs, a mandatory commercial will be played for about 15-30 seconds. As well as the multiple ads displayed around the site to produce revenue. An upgraded version is even available for purchase which allows unlimited play time. Pandora even has a user friendly Application for the iphone and other smart phone likes the droid eris.
So how will radio survive if people can listen at any time to whatever style they want? Pandora lacks the conversational style we find in radio which keeps us company on our morning commutes and long drives. But really, mostly time will tell.

Make Surgery A Last Resort

January 29, 2010

3 years ago i dislocated my right shoulder in a stupid skateboard incident. 3 months later i dislocated my left shoulder in a snowboard competition because i was “babying” my right shoulder. Because after every dislocation, it becomes easier and easier to dislocate, i ended up dislocated my left shoulder over 100 times and my right one closer to 40. It ruined me. Instead of listening to the doctor, i continued being active in snowboarding and skateboarding pushing myself harder and faster. I ended up getting surgery in both shoulders and the surgery ended up failing because of how much damage i have cause which could have been prevented. So i then got a new set of surgeries in my shoulders totaling 4 shoulder surgeries in a couple years.
For this whole time i was unable to continue doing the things i loved doing. In total, the whole schmeel cost over $250,000. Thank God for health insurance. I have implanted 22 hooks and 4 screws to keep my shoulders together and a lifetime of pain. The moral of this story is to listen to what the doctor says and DON’T GET SURGERY UNLESS IT’S THE LAST RESORT.

L.A.’s New 5th Revised MMJ Ordinance.

January 29, 2010

Tuesday, L.A. City counsel approved the newest Medical Marijuana Ordinance for the city. Revised additions to this ordinance included zoning, caps as well as more clarification with the law. Their will now be a cap of 70 collectives in the City of LA, not including the original 187 before the moratorium in 2007 was placed. The counsel have also stated that 70 was just a starting point, and as time goes by, with more research they can approve a higher number. They have also determined SB420 to be unconstitutional which means MMJ patients now can possess whatever amount suits their needs along with a doctor’s verification. A lot more harsher restrictions have been placed, but for the most part it seems fair. We can be certain more ordinance drafts will appear to amend the previous.
I feel this has gone on way too long. Our city has wasted our tax dollars for a losing fight. With the amount of political and civil pressure marijuana is getting (in a positive way), full legalization is a strong possibility for California in the near future. In november, it will be placed on the ballot.

Always Bring Chains

January 23, 2010

Winter..a time for many families to make that venture to the mountains and enjoy a ski trip. It also means many accidents due to stupidity. Whether its putting the chains on properly or just how to drive..Even if it hasn’t snowed for weeks, it’s always smart to bring chains.
Many people make giant fools of themselves and they don’t even realize it. Then they wonder why the bottom of their car or bumper is ****ed up. HERE’S A FEW TIPS!:

FACT 1: ALWAYS have chains in your car if it has snowed or is forecasted to snow within 48 hours of your planned trip
FACT 2: just because you have a big 4×4 truck or your subie doesn’t mean you don’t have to carry chains. CHP will still ask for you to have them in your car and many times after a large snow will require some sort of all season/ snow tire
FACT 3: 4×4 and AWD does not make your car invincible in snow ice/ etc. Take caution
FACT 4: chains do not make your car invincible in snow. Take caution
FACT 5: chains can be expensive so check local classifieds to save some money. I picked up a set for my girlfriends dad’s tacoma for $20 on craigslist
FACT 6: Say today is wednesday, do not ask if you will need chains for Sunday, that is days away. No one could know at this point in time how much of the road were cleared, whether or not it will be raining, or if it indeed snow/not snow on the day in question.
FACT 7: Typically its cold outside when putting on your chains (duh)… work gloves come in handy here

PULL 100% TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN PUTTING ON YOUR CHAINS. DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE TO PUT THEM ON AND GET STUCK IN A BAD SPOT (cough cough hwy 2 in the middle of the road cough cough)

Better off braking before a turn rather than in the middle of one (specially FWD with cables\chains) easy way to oversteer. (spin out)

30 mph with cables\chains is max recommended speed, not minimum.

repetitive metallic clunking….yea your poos loose, might want to snug them up before you damage something.

Check clearance between strut and tire (cables\chains can hit them and break, not to mention the fact your brake lines typically run on that)

Check chains\cables to make sure they arent fraying or about to break.

Test fit them on before you leave, make sure you are competent in putting them on. The longer it takes, the colder your fingers are gonna get and the harder it is to get them tight. Fingers can stick to the cables if they get cold enough and your fingers are wet.

If your car is lowered, consider using a jack (if possible with a flat even surface) to lift up enough to get some room between fender and tire, or pull forward more to allow you to attach cables in front or behind.

FWD vehicle, cables go on front, RWD, cables go on rear. 4×4\awd your manual will\should tell you which tires to put them on, different vehicles recommend putting them on different tires…

Parents need to take responsibilty.

January 15, 2010

Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons, Futurama, American Dad, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are some of America’s favorite animated television shows. But they are also some of the most controversial shows to be aired over television. These shows bring out the most angered mothers who always seem to have a stick up their ###. These parents like to blame everything but themselves for their child’s misbehavior and crude language. Aside from notoriously violent video games like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Call of Duty, these animated television shows get a good amount of heat from these women and groups like the FCC as well as the people in the world who can’t laugh at themselves or are too stupid and stubborn to just NOT WATCH IT.

All of these shows are most definetely aware of these groups against their comedy. Some of them will even lash out at the audience. For example, the movie South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut used that as a central theme. Mothers lashing out against “crude language and potty humor” because of a movie their boys (Stan, Kyle, Eric & Kenny) have watched, they mimmicked the crude language displayed in the movie. In the end the mothers realized they should have payed more attention to their sons instead of blaming someone else.

Family Guy pokes fun at his a lot as well. In a few episodes Peter Griffin Talks directly to the audience and lashes back. For example, in EpisodeBoys Do Cry,” Lois says, “values don’t come from where you live or who your friends are. They come from inside, from your own beliefs.” Peter then says to the audience: “I agree, Lois. Like, for instance, if you’re watching a TV show and you decide to take your values from that, you’re an idiot. Maybe you should take responsibility for what values your kids are getting.
Maybe you shouldn’t be letting your kids watch certain shows in the first place if you have such a big problem with them, instead of blaming the shows themselves. Yeah
” If you don’t like the show, you should simply not watch it. Family Guy is trying to say the parents should play a larger role in their childrens’ life and should take control of what they watch on TV.

I am going to end on this note. Here are a few very controversial and offensive clips. If you can’t laugh at yourself or you just get offended easily, DO NOT WATCH THESE HILARIOUS CLIPS. due to copyright laws, these videos will not be of best quality.

This captured hundreds of stereotypes alone…it’s ok, laugh at yourself

Why is SMC trying to drop students??

January 13, 2010

SMC’s poor budgeting is really bothering myself as well as i’m sure the entire Santa Monica College student body. On January 12th, i went online to the SMC website to pay for my Spring 2010 classes. I sign on and the first thing i notice is that my classes i signed up for this spring have been dropped! Completely gone! I was scared, confused and outraged. It turns out the payment deadline for spring classes was the 11th. What this meant was if you hadn’t payed by that date, all of your classes would be dropped. I got no such memo. Not an email or any sort of notification for this. It’s like SMC is trying to encourage its students to not take classes.

Especially after all of the budget cuts, one would think that SMC should do what they can to obtain as many students as possible because each student = a good amount of $. Cuts can be seen all over. So far, under my observation, the “counceling express” line is cut because they had to cut down on their amount of councelors. The one time, free semester class catalog is now being charged 1 dollar. They can’t even afford free catalogs for the students anymore…YET they have the budget to add in new buildings and to redo parts of the campus. Money is being poorly allocated and shunned away from us students. How much more will they take away from us?
